Harutyun AVAKIAN (born 1976) - Lot 2
Harutyun AVAKIAN (born 1976) Springtime Oil on canvas, 2023 60 cm x 70 cm Born in 1976 in Soviet Armenia, he began to show an uncommon sensitivity for drawing and sculpture from his early childhood. He entered the Kojoyan School of Fine Arts at the age of 9. After a complete 5-year course, Harutyun joined the National College of Fine Arts in Yerevan. He starts to be interested in French painting (La Tour, Ingres, Delacroix, Cézanne, Matisse, and especially the Flemish school of the 17th century). The Soviet Union collapses, leading to a questioning of academic rigor in art and socialist aesthetics. For Harutyun, as for most artists of his generation, begins a period of questioning the place of art and the role of the artist in society and a personal search for an aesthetic of his own, free from the weight of academism. In 1999, he exhibited his work at the Dung Bui Gallery, located in Paris at the time. Another exhibition, private this time, followed, organized by the Hervet bank in 2000. Harutyun's influences follow one another, passing through abstract, collage and realism. He teaches drawing and painting at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Yerevan and regularly presents his works in Armenia in various group and solo exhibitions.
