CANTON, VIETNAM 20TH CENTURY Important service comprising fifteen pieces in porcelain and polychrome enamel, including a sugar pot, a teapot, a milk jug, six cups and six saucers decorated with calligraphy in medallions on a pink enamel background, flowers and foliage. The rim of each piece is decorated with Greek motifs, and all the pieces are encircled with repoussé silver metal. H. 7 to 14 cm; D. 14 cm PROVENANCE : Collection of Colonel René Boutteçon A career military officer, Colonel Boutteçon was sent to Vietnam as head of an engineering battalion to supervise a number of French infrastructure projects. He spent 23 months in Vietnam, taking the opportunity to meet Vietnamese artists such as TRAN Phuc Duyen and Nguyen Tien Chun in Hanoi. On this occasion, he bought lacquerware and objets d'art from Vietnam and China, which he brought back to France.
