ƒ GEORGES REMI DIT HERGÉ (1907-1983) - Lot 68
ƒ GEORGES REMI DIT HERGÉ (1907-1983) Tintin in Tibet Graphite pencil on paper for the preparatory drawing for plate 46 of the album, 1960 H 40.0 x 29.7 cm Tintin in Tibet is Hergé's masterpiece, according to the author himself, who confessed his preference for this adventure. What characterizes this work above all is the strength of character shown by the young reporter in the adventure. He's no longer fighting the bad guys, but himself... Motivated by his friendship with Chang, Tintin is human and empathetic. In search of his friend, he fights tooth and nail in this adventure.Tintin may have his doubts at times, but he's driven by a fierce desire to believe in his friend's survival. This plate gives a surprising account of this quest: we see Snowy partly distraught, yet determined to save his master, like Tintin with Chang. Distracted for a moment, Snowy comes to his senses and thinks only of saving Tintin. Without seeing the danger, without giving in to anger, without turning against the Tibetans, Snowy is guided only by his affection for his master. While the inked plates are the fruit of studio teamwork, this preparatory pencil sketch remains the most authentic and intimate testimony to the master's talent. Hergé in the midst of creating his most personal album... In addition to the complementary drawings on the edges of the pages, we recognize the monk Foudre Bénie in the margins... Hergé pays particular attention to Snowy's confusion and fear, and his determination to find a solution, whatever the cost. A tremendous life lesson and confession. A poignant work where emotion reaches its peak. Although we don't see Tintin, we feel his presence through the loyalty of his best friend. An exceptional piece.
