San Francisco Silver spot
Color screenprint, stamp, 1983, copyright Warhol.
Printed by Rupert Jasen Smith (New York) and edited by Ronald Feldman Fine Arts (New York).
From Endangered Species, 1983 by Ronald Feldman.
In 1983, Andy Warhol created a series of ten color serigraphs depicting endangered animals from around the world: Siberian tiger, San Francisco tiger, orangutan, Grevy's zebra, black rhinoceros, bighorn sheep ram, African elephant, tree frog. Pine Barrens, giant panda and bald eagle. Using vivid colors - characteristic of his distinctive style - and touching expressions that evoke the animal's fate, Warhol creates a dynamic tension between art and reality.
The Endangered Species Portfolio was commissioned by Ronald and Frayda Feldman, long-time political activists and environmentalists who support innovative art projects and installations through their art gallery, Ronald Feldman Fine Art, New York.
