DESIGN BOOK. JEANETTE LAVERRIERRE. Yves Badetz, Norma Edition. Hardcover, 176 pages (used condition) Janette Laverrière. Born in Switzerland in 1909, Janette Laverrière studied at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule in Basel and trained in the office of her father, a famous architect. In 1931, she joined Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann's firm and married decorator Maurice Pré, with whom she worked until 1945. At the 1937 Exposition internationale des arts et techniques in Paris, they created Le Pied-à-terre d'un archéologue alongside Maxime Old. Separated from Maurice Pré, Janette Laverrière turned to economical, innovative furniture. In 1950, she joined the collections of the Mobilier national. Her most important projects were the presidential palace in Niamey and the Swiss Hospital in Paris. Her work, which spans much of the 20th century, is characterized by a quest for simplicity and poetry, particularly evident in the mirrors she has created from 1936 to the present day.
