Ardash Kakafian was an Armenian artist born in 1922 in Tabriz, Iran. He grew up in a family of artists and developed his talent from an early age. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul, Kakafian moved to Paris in 1947 to pursue his artistic studies. While in Paris, Kakafian was influenced by the great artists of the time, such as Picasso, Matisse and Braque. He was also inspired by the culture and history of his native Armenia. He used these influences to develop his own unique artistic style, which was characterized by vibrant colors and abstract forms. Kakafian exhibited his work in numerous international exhibitions and won many prestigious awards, including the Grand Prix de l'Exposition des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in 1950 and the Gold Medal of the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts in 1966. His works have been acquired by public and private collections worldwide.
Kakafian was also a passionate teacher, sharing his love of art with many students. He taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul, as well as at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, where he was appointed professor in 1971.
Kakafian died in Paris in 1998, but his artistic legacy continues to inspire artists the world over. His contribution to contemporary art, and his influence on Armenian culture, are inestimable.
