GLADKY SERGE (SERHIJ HLADKI circa 1880-after 1939) - Lot 75
GLADKY SERGE (SERHIJ HLADKI circa 1880-after 1939) "Nouvelles compositions", Paris, Charles Moreau, 1930. 335 x 257 mm, 4 pp. and 48 plates in publisher's wallet with original cover by Gladky, stencilled in the same colors as the 48 plates. Born in the Ukraine around 1880, Serge Gladky emigrated to Czechoslovakia, where he stayed from 1924 to 1926; there he founded the magazine "Umeni Slovanu" (Slavic Art), before arriving in Paris, where he stayed until his return to the Ukraine in 1939, when he was lost to history. His work in the constructivist style is essentially stencil-based; he publishes a dozen works in small, or even very small, print runs in this delicate technique, which he masters with ease. (100800)
