A NEW GRAND PALAIS DES EXPOSITIONS - Lot 168
A NEW GRAND PALAIS DES EXPOSITIONS
Paris, OTUA, 1935. 54 x 43 cm. 164pp, cloth spine, lithographed cover by Cassandre (flaws and tears). Text, plans, in- and out-of-text photographs. Foreword, competition statutes, jury decisions; full publication of the thirteen competing projects, presented by their authors: Tournon and Chappey, Expert, Fournier, Molinier, Nicod-Boulanger, Umbdenstock, Beaudoin and Lods, Bourdeix, Boutterin, Granet, Madeline. The competition, organized by the Office Technique de l'Utilisation de l'Acier, was for a metal hall between a 345 m. square and a 250 x 480 m. rectangle on the site of the Grand Palais for the 1937 Exposition des Arts et Techniques. But once again, academicism prevailed over modernism, and the building remained a project.
